Last day in Orygun

In a few hours I'll be leaving this small town on the coast, at the mouth of the mighty Columbia, and my thoughts turn to the fact that in two days I'll be subjected to the horrors of the Bay Area news with its emphasis on Cal and Standford.

Cal and Standford I mean come on who gives a dingleberry. I hate California.

Gender issues

You know I don't know anything about the womyn's program. And I'm not sure how I feel about that. I think it's because I don't give a shit, but then again if they get into the women's tourney you know I'll be all about those lady ducks.
So I guess lets go gals.

What a bloooow out

Dang nation, I thought the ole ducks would lose but sheeit I dinnna think it would be so bad. Someone's got some splaining to do.

It would be fun to try and follow the ducks from the beer halls of Munich and Praque, and so I'll do just that.
Imagine the soft light of sunrise filtering over the banks of the Seine as a warm breeze blows through the air and somewhere in the distance music plays as the Parisan market women begin their day. I pick up my journal and pen, take a sip of espresso and write LEEEEEEEEEEEEEET's GOOOOOO THE DUCKS!!!!!

yeah fucking right.

That duck team ain't too bad, like I've been saying for a while I think they
have a shot at the tourney and the speed and offense to even get to the third round. But let's not get a head of ourselves…

SPORTS!!!!!

Dammit Andrew, it'll be sad to see you gone from Oregon -- even if I left over a year ago -- especially as you're the person most responsible for keeping The Loop alive... well, at least making sure there's a pulse... during the football off-season. While you're abroad, keep on posting, if you have the time. I guess there's no denying we're all lot bigger fans of Oregon football than we are of its basketball.

But hell -- have you SEEN ... er, READ ABOUT the Oregon basketball team this year? Notwithstanding today's lopsided loss to the admittedly-ranked Arizona Wildcats, the One Luke has done a pretty good job of keeping the team afloat with the absence of Ernie Kent Jr... sorry, Freddie Jones... and the Other Luke. I don't know the math, so they could be on the way to another all right NIT showing, but I sure hope they're headed toward at least a solid first round exit from the NCAA playoffs. One can only hope!

The other purpose of this post is to get another World Wide Web link to a website I'm starting up as of this weekend -- Oregon Sports Fan. If it's sports-related, and Oregon-related, chances are you're going to find it here. Is this a Drudge knockoff? Of course! Is this a pipe dream? You betcha! Is this crass commercialism? Eventually!

Tune in. I plan to post again soon. So should you.

In the meantime... GO DUCKS!!!

Sun Devils can't play the fiddle worth a damn

Ahh, the Merry Time, the local sports, eating and drinking establishment in Astoria. They have these footlong chicken strips that are unbelievable and last night I was surprised and overjoyed to find Dead Guy on tap.
I may walk out of there smelling like my alcoholic uncle's ashtray but after watching the ducks beat Ariz. State. It's all good.
It's good also to see the ducks play some decent defense, and work for those rebounds. Again I'm not much of a basketball fan, but I think the ducks need to get more of a presence inside and in driving the lane. Did I just say a basketball cliché? I believe I did.
Oh well.
I liked Howard Dean's yell, especially repeated and set to a techno beat and with his litany of states repeated as well. It was slightly unnerving, but it's got a catchy beat and you can bug out to it.

More husky bashing

The Seattle Times reported today that in the dying seconds of the Huskies' 84-74 Pac-10 men's basketball loss to Oregon last night, the boisterous Ducks student section began a rhythmic clap-and-chant: "Pac-10 doormats!"

That pretty much sums it all up. The newspaper also said the city is building an apartment building for street drunks. Hmmmmmmmmm.

Huskies suck

Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooho. We beat the huskies.

Heard the rumors Moos may take the Wash. AD job? If he does that's bull shit. Smelly, runny husky shit.

I like Indy and Philly in the games this weekend, with Indy pulling it out in the Super Bowl. I also like gin!

Beav upset

I sympathize with your complaints about Midwesterners Dan, I have a host of relatives from Illinois and I've spent almost 6 years trying to correct Ore-gone to Ory-gun. They say "Oh Orygun, I see," then have a couple of Miller Lites and in a hour it's back to Oreee-gone.

Didn't watch the game on Saturday but I've formed two opinions from the highlights and postgame coverage, a) Luke Jackson can't win games by himself, despite scoring almost 40 and b) we need more points off the bench.

From what I've heard on the football recruiting front is that we've picked up another stud D-Lineman from the Medford area and are stacking on the O-Line. But we lost out on a stud RB from the Bay Area who went to Cal because he liked Tedford!
The secondary seemed to toughen up in the latter part of the season so I think '04's success hinges on getting some fresh legs in the backfield.

Of Course This Is A Forum!

Just not a very well-trafficked one, that is. After watching that bowl game on New Year's Eve, I couldn't bring myself to post a thing. So... close...!

Anyway, it's time to move on. The men's basketball team looks pretty good so far... at least, they do against non-Pac 10 teams. I just missed Sunday's loss to fUCkLA, and by my schedule, the next nationally televised game is against Arizona State later this month. Until then, I'll be depending on The Loop in part for commentary. Don't let me down, Loopsters!

Duck Hoops

Is this just a forum for football or for bazkeetball as well?
And I mean UO basketball not that played by the horrible Portland professional team that will not be mentioned here.

Judging by the lack of posts following UO's bowl game, I'm starting to wonder if this is even a forum anymore.

I guess they came out strong against USC but faltered against fUCkLA. I think the ducks could get into the tournament this year, maybe as the third team from the Pac 10. Not being much of a basketball fan I don't know what they need to win, but I do like Luke Jackson.

They've got OSU up next on Jan. 10 and I do know the Beavs suck hard. So here with almost no real research is my pick,

UO: 87
OSU: 72

ONE FUCKING POINT

Now I know how Bruin fans felt after we beat them 21-20 and 31-30.
It sucks, but shit you really can't fault Oregon, well maybe the D-Line a little bit. (Stop em on third down for Christ's sake!)
It was a great game. I'll be curious to see where Fife and Parker end up, if anywhere, next year.
And the future looks good, Clemens looked on fire. Hopefully we can recruit some stud running back and get a Pac-10 title contender team for next year.
All in all I don't feel too bad. Despite the gin and champagne hang over.
