All Told

Good enough, I guess.

The QB controversy (I fear to point out) is not over. Is it because Fifi cut his mane?

But the 'stache is working its magic...

Does anybody else see this game as a microcosm of last season?

As of mid-third quarter. Just asking.

Bellotti!!

Put Clemens back in! If Fife is still playing next possession...

Quite Pretty, Actually

I do not refer to the uniforms, of course. But they are more attractive than Mandrake.

But so far, we are on track to win 112 to 28.

T-Minus Nine Minutes

GO DUCKS!!!

Random Notes And Replies

Out here on the Eastside, we're very lucky tonight's opener is going to be on ESPN2. Such a late game, though -- starts 9PM our time. Of course, that late start for an EST game probably explains why two unranked teams managed to get national airtime. And also, Bobby's progeny Terry Bowden said of Oregon on ABC earlier today, "you can't keep 'em down for long." Nice to know we've earned some cred.

In Joey Heisman news, the Lions' 2-1 preseason looks like they could do better than last year. And even though they lost to Cincinnati (fer chrissake), it looks like Detroit is solidly behind him. Not that they really have other options. (Also, go here to vote to support Joey's starting position. Not that he needs it).

Re: Ted on vestitude. After spending a few minutes trying to defend their use on the grounds that players do other things to compensate for thier surroundings -- viz., wear "war paint" -- I gave up. I too like the intangibles of home field advantage. As for the vests themselves, it should come as no surprise that the vests are the product of Nike's skunk works and hence a gift of Phil Knight. The controversy really hinged on the fact that Nike offered their use to the Ducks but not the Bulldogs. Ha! Oh well.

Re: AK and Beardy on the Expos. I disagree. The team that's ignored by a million-plus Frenchie Nucks and exists as a ward of the state -- er, MLB -- is actually pretty good. They're in contention for the NL Wild Card, so they ain't like the abominable Grizzlies hoping someone will take them in. And unlike the Grizzlies, I'd hope the Expos would choose a new name. (Portland's had as many World Expositions as SLC has jazz clubs.) And thanks to the Legislature's surprise move, Portland looks more and more like the most viable option. (Nobody thinks DC should get it, least of all Orioles owner Peter Angelos.) If it's Portland, what will the name be? The Spawning Salmon? The Scattered Showers? Hmmm... Beavers it is! (Dammit Tim, look what you've started.)

And: Anybody else watching other games this afternoon? I first settled on the UGA-Clemson game -- blowout. Now Fresno St.-Tennessee -- trending blowout. What's a fan gotta do to find a competitive game around here??

T-Minus Nine Hours And Counting

Oregon's projected depth chart, as of July. (But mentally subtract Keith Allen.) Mississippi State's depth chart. (Warning: PDF.)

The odds. A professional take: Ducks -3 over. An amateur take: Ducks a "lock" at -4.5 over. The oddsmakers think we'll win, but by a closer margin than we've predicted, save Dan (who had Oregon losing) and Tim.

The weather in Starkville -- eighty degrees plus and humid, with a chance of thundershowers. And no cooling vests! But at least no cowbells.

P.S. If we're going OT on baseball, I agree that I don't care. But I'm virtually assured of caring before the start of next season. The Expos are headed to one of three places: Portland, Northern Virgina or DC. Well, I'm from PDX; I live in NoVa; I work in the District. I can't lose!

F'real...

And now that Dan has brought Herman Ho-Ching into this thing of ours, I should mention that the man who loves his hair* more than his game has resurfaced at Texas A&M University (hat tip: Big O). But not at College Station, no. He's playing for Texas A&M at ... wait for it ... Division II Kingsville. Or at least he did last year. I can't find him on this page. Too bad the XFL is dead and buried. It was his only hope.

P.S. Template changes still forthcoming.

*That is, according to his RA, a former ASUO VP whose name is an anagram for "Tamir."

ONLY 74 HOURS LEFT UNTIL KICKOFF

That is correct.

Also, this post is written as a self-referring link because a few of you having trouble viewing the site can, I am told, still see the links. Anyway, I'm still working on it.

Check back soon.

I can't read my posts. Can anyone else read my posts? Well if you can don't put a reply cause I likely can't read it.
Oh yeah, go ducks.

Brother, can you spare a dime bag?

The AP reports this afternoon that #3-drafted pothead Akili Smith, picked up by the Green Bay Packers as a potential Favre backup earlier this summer, needs to find a new job.

Fife v. Feeley

Danno, I buy what you're selling, but only up to a point. This game should be unlosable, as may our next two, against Nevada and Arizona. But need we even lose to change QBs? Think back to '99 -- Feeley started for three-quarters of a solid season but still ended up yielding his job to Harrington. Now, Feeley did a better job in those eight games than the Fried Fifer did all last season (if memory serves) but he still lost his job. Fife is no Feeley; all Clemens has to do is be more competent in the second half than Feeley is in the first, and the job is his.

Then again, I dislike this speculation, but not as much as I like perpetuating it. Fife might get his shit together and produce, while Clemens could be exceptionally mediocre and flake out.

Swami? AK? Rep. Dreier?

OXR? (I know you're here!)

Other games…

Can't wait to see the Fuskies reamed by the defending natl. champs Ohio State.
The only problem is we won't be able to watch Neuhiesal get embarrassed, but I guess one could argue he's had enough of that already. No, on second thought he hasn't.

Blogger sucks, as do the Bulldogs, and so will Game 1

Much in agreement with Herr Editor Man Timothy on the new Blogger interface. A month or so ago they upgraded to a nifty new layoutability. Now they've apparently downgraded, such as I can no longer click easily on the BOLDFACE and italic but now must clumsily fiddle around, typing HTML tags like Mark Twain did back in the olden days.

In any case, I'm surprised that no one has yet noted that MS State might as well have M.S. as they went 3-9 overall last season and 0-8 within their own conference. It's their second year in last place in the SEC. (Have a look at the Jackson Clarion-Ledger -- it's all doom and gloom.) Now, it's possible that the Ducks could be one of another 3, but I just don't believe it. The Ducks are always pretty good in their season opener, and even if they're not all that good, I must disagree with Damn Atkinson's pessimistic outlook. Rather, I line up more with the Swami's prediction of a dull, ineptly played first game. But no matter who QBs -- and I'm a Clemens partisan -- I'm not quite so optimistic as he.

WWB predicts: Ducks: 13, Bulldogs (Bulldongs?) 3.

P.S. Titles are now fixed so that you can actually see them. More adjustments to the layout forthcoming as I continue to back-engineer XML.
LETS GO THE DUCKS!

Let me first say I think it's great to see the start of the second season of the Loop, let's hope it's as succesful this time around as last.
And props go to BB for getting this crazy Duck train back on the tracks.
Now from my vantage point in buuutiful Asstoria on the north coast, the Sonoma Swami thinks the ducks can pull off their season opener.
It'll be tough, and the offense will struggle, but an energized ducks D, led by an asskickin line will prevail.
UO: 17, Miss State: 7

Look for a few sacks, and the quarterback controversy to heat up in this one.

First post to The Loop, right here. Right now. Watching the Ducks set out to make history.

Well, so we hope. Go Ducks!
